Open-Cell Wetsuits

All spearfishing wetsuits are made of neoprene, a form of foamed rubber material. ALPHA wetsuits, like the ones commonly used in the world of spearfishing, diving are double lined, which means that they have a layer of fabric nylon covering the neoprene which the suit is made This type of wetsuit allows for a layer of water to come into the wetsuit and create a barrier between the diver’s body and the wetsuit itself.

When Open-Cell neoprene comes in contact with the diver’s skin, it literally sticks to it with a vacuum effect, effectively eliminating any water flow in or out of the wetsuit. The result is that instead of using a layer of water, which constantly needs to be heated up to insulate the diver from the surrounding environment, the neoprene material itself acts as an insulator and is far more effective in retaining any body heat which is generated by the diver.

The camo spearfishing suits are designed for blending in the enviroment and having the fish come in closer as they cant see you as much. Green camo suits tend to be worn in green/brown waters which although the gold coast can have clean water, its generally green water. If you were diving up north in crystal clear waters, then you would wear the blue camo. Black can be worn either of these enviroments and we understand that some people just dont like camo! Spearfishing suits  come in 2-5mm but are more commonly 3mm in Queensland, however 5mm can be purchased for those cold blooded divers out there.
